Summer Visits

With our monthly meetings paused over the summer, we make the most of the longer days by visiting workshops, timber yards and other places of interest to woodworkers. Each trip is a chance to see how others approach their craft, pick up new techniques, and spend time with fellow members in a more informal setting.

Spaces are limited so we have to restrict these visits to members only.

National Museum of the Royal Navy

On 28th June 1911, The Dockyard Museum opened in Portsmouth, growing and evolving into the Royal Naval Museum, which then became a part of the newly formed National Museum of the Royal Navy in September 2009. The museum holds the most comprehensive collection of Royal Navy heritage in the world and the largest collection of historic ships in Europe. It cares for a collection of over 2.5 million items which tell the epic story of the Royal Navy from its origins in 625 AD to today. These collections hold a breadth of material much which is unique to the Navy – figureheads, flags, aircraft, art, documentary archives, photographs, archaeological material and technology.
